How I’m getting back into shape after pregnancy
Finding yourself again after having a baby can be so overwhelming. There are so many changes and phases you go through and prioritizing fitness can be a challenge. I’ve gotta remind myself from time to time, that I need to give myself some grace as I navigate motherhood.
After I had my first child, my daughter, it took more than a year to finally settle into a routine. I’d get into fitness, and then eventually stop altogether and then attempt it all over again a few months later. At some point things changed when I went on walks with her and realized I could run with her on the stroller. It was so simple and it turned out to be a game changer. I overcomplicated things – running simplified things for me as a new mom and allowed me to challenge myself while also getting into shape.
So how am I getting back into shape after my second child? Well, this time around, I’ve been doing a little bit of everything and that’s made the world of a difference for me both physically and mentally. Peloton workouts, runs, walks, any movement counts. I’m also not stressing a 60-minute workout. With a 9-month old baby and toddler, I’m not exactly getting uninterrupted sleep, so I’m doing my best. I’m aiming for progress, not perfection. Leaning into discipline, not motivation.
I realize this is a long journey and doesn’t always apply to everyone. If you’re in the season of motherhood, be patient with yourself and just put one foot in front of the other and you’ll get there soon enough.
